Kevin G. Brown
M Mus. B.A. A.Mus.A Grad Dip. (Performance & Teaching)
Kevin was brought up in a brass playing family and later completed military service both in Australian and overseas. He toured with the Queensland Youth Orchestra on their inaugural overseas trip to Switzerland and after hearing the best youth orchestras in the world realised that a future in orchestral playing was what he wanted for a profession.
Upon his return to Brisbane Kevin successfully auditioned for the Qld Conservatorium of Music and was the first trombonist to be accepted into that institution. He was active performing for the State Ballet, Opera and musicals and after graduation became a member of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. During this time Kevin performed over 3,000 concerts with the orchestra and toured extensively.
Kevin completed his Masters Degree at the University of Queensland where his thesis examined the possibility of teaching brass instruments to children with serious hearing impairments. The challenge being to bring this group to a standard where they could play in a school band.
His commitment to teaching from beginner to tertiary level, together with his success as a conductor of school and community bands in competitions is well recognised by parents and other educators. He has been an examiner for the Australian Music Education Board for 18 years.
Kevin commenced teaching at the Nambour Christian College and the Sunshine Coast Grammar School in 2008 and enjoys the tradition and commitment that the schools offer. His passion is to see students reach their full musical potential and has witnessed musical and personal success in those who embrace music as a serious subject.
In 2012 Kevin saw the need for a youth brass band on the Sunshine Coast and the Youth Band was born at that time.
